OBEC Safety Lessons for Students

Ecology Day at Lake Wappapello

On May 9, 2018 fourth graders from five area schools got a special lesson from Ozark Border Electric Cooperative during Ecology Day at Lake Wappapello.  A total of 184 children were provided a wealth of safety information, including how electricity is made and the path it travels to make it to our homes.  The students learned the dangers of flying kites around power lines and playing around underground transformers, and how important it is to pay attention to warning stickers on electrical equipment.  A miniature home scene with poles and electric lines was used to show what could happen if you come in contact with a downed power line or fall into one with a ladder or scaffolding.

If your school or organization is interested in seeing the safety demonstration, please call Cherie Cook at 573-785-4631 or email her at ccook@ozarkborder.org.
