Enter the 2022 Youth Tour Essay Contest

Ozark Border Electric Cooperative is sponsoring two area high school juniors on the 2022 NRECA Youth Tour.  They will travel with over 100 students from Missouri and over 1800 students from across America on a week-long all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C.! You will see memorials, museums, monuments and more!! The 2022 trip is scheduled for June 13 – 19.

Contest Information and Rules:

1.       Entries will be accepted from any current high school junior whose parents/legal guardians are members of Ozark Border Electric Cooperative. (except children, grandchildren, brothers or sisters of OBEC employees or directors) 

2.       Each participant will need to complete an application and is required to write a 500-1000 word typed essay on the topic:   

 The necessity of electricity is most felt in its absence.  Describe a day without electricity. 

3.       Submission deadline will be March 15, 2022.  Do not put your name or identifying information on your essay.  Include a cover sheet with your name, address and phone number.  Completed applications and essays can be mailed to:

4.       Essays will be judged for knowledge, originality, composition, grammar and appearance.  The top 10 finalists will receive a prize!  The top two finalists will be selected to represent Ozark Border Electric Cooperative on the 2022 Youth Tour in Washington, D.C.  The next two finalists will represent us on the 2022 C.Y.C.L.E. trip in Jefferson City, Missouri. Finalists that are not selected for a trip will receive a $100 gift card.
