WELCOME NEW MEMBERS
CITY OF CAMPBELL
On April 30, 2010, the Cooperative became the owner of the electric lines in the City of Campbell and added over 1,000 new meters to the Cooperative‘s system. The City of Campbell had operated as a municipal utility for many years but in recent years began to experience higher power cost. As early as 2008, the City of Campbell and Ozark Border Electric Cooperative began talks to determine if it would be beneficial to enter into a territorial agreement which would allow the City of Campbell to sell its electric system to the Cooperative and the Cooperative assuming the responsibility of providing electric service to the residents of the City. This plan appeared to be feasible because the Cooperative had existing electrical lines and equipment around the edge of the City. The City had 62 consumers per mile of line compared to the Cooperative’s 6 consumers per mile. The Cooperative had lower power cost than what was available to the City.
In December 2009, the Cooperative and the City filed a joint application with the Missouri Public Service Commission for the approval of a Territorial Agreement which would allow the Cooperative to purchase the electric facilities and begin serving the citizens of Campbell. The Missouri Public Service Commission found that it was in the public interest for the Cooperative to serve Campbell. On March 1, 2010, the Missouri Public Service Commission approved the request and the Cooperative employees went to work to provide service to the City of Campbell. The job was completed in 60 days, which was earlier than planned. While the Cooperative still has work to complete, the residents of Campbell became members of Ozark Border Electric Cooperative on April 30, 2010. The Cooperative would like to welcome the City of Campbell to the Cooperative. The Cooperative has always enjoyed good growth, but only in one other occasion has over 1,000 consumers been added at one time and that was in July 1985 when the City of Doniphan was added.
Ozark Border Electric Cooperative delivers electrical
power to over 37,500 consumers at their homes, schools, businesses, churches
and farms throughout Southeast Missouri and maintains over 5,738 miles
of power line. Our headquarters is located in Poplar Bluff with additional
offices in Malden, Puxico, Van Buren and Doniphan.
